This should be an automatic license suspension. Nope, if you can't put a car like this between those lines, then you don't need to be on the road.

I like the valiant Mazda, fighting for the little guy.

Is it a bad thing that if it wasn't blocked by an asshat, I would park my Ranger in the small car spot?

Shared to Oppo. Why? Because you bring up a great point and a good discussion; who or what can or can not use a "SMALL CAR" space?
Here's my opinion - If you can fit your car in the space without inconveniencing anyone while still leaving enough courtesy space that folks can get in and out of their own cars without difficulty then I say, "Go for it."
It's a lot like that cat meme where if I fits, I sits is reason and argument enough and, up to a point, I agree. I park my Mustang in small car spaces all the time, though I avoid them if I can (for fear of less conscientious parkers parking next to me) and I don't care who uses them, so long as the person behind the wheel is aware of their own vehicle and of others.
Oddly, the reverse isn't true and I get fairly annoyed when I see the little Smart car parked in one of the few large spaces left, all dickish in it's dickishness. Large spaces, if you ask me, are the real issue here because, like the great whales, they're becoming increasingly rare. It's almost at the point where, as with smoking, it's okay to discriminate those with large vehicles because hippy-hipster-syndrome. I'm not okay with that. Go park your tiny little city car in one of the abundant tiny little city car spots and let me, the guy with full length doors, have one of the normal sized spots.

The Ranger IS a small car.

That's pretty much the way I do it. If it fits it sits (and that truck can fit in some small spots) Does that mean I'm going to do something dickish to park? No. I care about my vehicle and others care about theirs. But if I can park somewhere I'll park there.

I used to park my (2002) Rav4 in the compact spaces. People gave me funny looks, but it was shorter than the Corolla and about as wide as well.

Thank you!
Great example, and you'll love this:
I worked, for a time, in a call center. I worked for a long time, for a cab company. These jobs didn't have much in common, but it's the stark contrast between a group of professional drivers and the average driver that I'm trying to draw.
Every day at the call center it was madness with people either rushing to work, or from it, in an effort to avoid the snarl. It was unavoidable, though. Even with our multilevel parking structure with its clearly mapped out spaces and lanes, with its abundance of signage, the groups coming on or going off shift at the same time ended up warring among themselves and it got to be like Mad Max out there. A hundred people (give or take for those who carpooled or... ugh... bused) being told very clearly, in very clear language, what to do... wouldn't. They couldn't.
And then there's the cab company. One hundred and fifty cars, all sharing the same space and all changing shifts in the same space of time. No lines, no lanes. Not a designated parking space in sight and, unlike the square levels of the parking structure at the call center the cab lot was an irregularly shaped blob with obstacles. And you know what? It always went like clockwork. No one was ever "parked in" and no one was ever reduced to tears of rage, or acts of violence.
What was the difference? You tell me.

Early Rav4s are small cars, too. Tall, but small.
